Swim Lessons

This week while I have been out of town for business, Riley stayed in Brewton and had swimming lessons.  He has been afraid of the pool since his "bubble up" episode about a month ago, so he is not always ready to get in the pool.  But he talks quite fondly of Emily his teacher and about how much fun he has swimming with her. 

Back at the end of May, Riley and I were swimming at the Dwyers with Carolyn, Jake, Tracy, Avery, Kim and Thomas when Riley removed his swimmies.  Then he proceded to walk right down the steps of the pool and until he was under no one realized he had taken them off.  I was 10 feet away on the phone with my boss when I saw his sweet little face 6 inches below water staring up at all the bubbles coming out of his mouth.  Carolyn swooped him up and he was only under for seconds, but the event has left him a bit frightened of the water.  He does not want to get his head wet and he asks us to make sure this does not happen about 15 times a swim!

This is what I am sleeping in (and occassionally wearing to work) these days because all of a sudden I have carpel tunnel syndrome.  It is the highest of fashion!

I recieved the funniest email this morning from my friend Cameron.  I laughed out loud, so I thought I would share.

Worst blogger ever!

So sorry! I posted that we were going and never followed up...terrible! Everything at our maternal fetal specialist appointment went well. The best part was that my Mom got to hear it all from the doctor herself, I think she now believes that I am eating enough and that twins didn't run in our family before me. He also explained why the twins are more than likely fraternal, however they could possibly be identical. Baby A weighed 15 ounces and Baby B weighed 14 ounces. So between 19 weeks and 21 weeks they grew by 50%!

The doctor also said they are indeed both girls and Baby B does have SUA. However, he said that they (maternal fetal specialist) don't get excited about SUA. He said that about 2 out of every 100 babies has SUA. Of those babies about 85% are perfectly healthy. Of the other 15% with issues, 98% of those babies have issues that are visible on the ultrasound. So, it seems that we have 98% chance of being perfectly healthy. And the fact that Baby B is weighing only an ounce less than Baby A is a great sign.

So I have been scolded for continuing to google this, but I cannot help myself! Michael and I are both worried about Baby B because she has a condition that is known as SUA, single unbiblical artery. The doctors words to us were, “Baby B has a 2 vessel unbiblical cord where most babies would have a 3 vessel unbiblical cord. This condition can be a soft marker for other anomalies usually related to kidney or renal issues.  However, we did look at Baby B’s kidneys and bladder and everything looks great. It is something to be aware of, but not something that we are worried about at this time.” He was very positive, and mentioned nothing else other than renal issues. However, I can’t help but google, despite my mother’s scolding for doing so.

Anyway, the article below explains the condition if anyone is interested. From what I read in medical abstracts, the condition happens in less than 1% of pregnancies and within that 1% of pregnancies only 20% of them actually had any anomalies at birth. Of the 20% who had anomalies at birth the majority of those anomalies were detected on an ultrasound in utero. So we are off to a good start as the doctor and nurse did not detect any anomalies in the 19 week ultrasound which was very extensive and I have on DVD if you would like to see.

Tomorrow I am headed to UAB to see a Maternal Fetal Specialist and get a more in depth ultrasound to see if there is anything we should be prepared for.  I will try to post after my appointment tomorrow, however, I never know how I am going to feel and if I will actually get around to it.  This whole pregnancy thing is kicking my but!  However, I may have turned a corner as I have not thrown up since Saturday and I have only had two headaches since then.  These are both really big changes!

How big am I?

When you meausre my uterus it is measuring 28.5 weeks or as big as that of a 28.5 week woman pregnant with a singleton.  So, the girls are spreading out as best they can.  As of my last weigh in two weeks ago, I had gained a total of 14 pounds, but since that weigh in I have gained 2.5 inches, so I am probably weighing more now.  Anyway, here are some pictures for your own comparison.

For those of you wondering why I added the foot ultrasound picture, it is for my Momma.  When she saw Riley's foot on an ultrasound she decided then and there that I was having a little boy because in her opinion, "there was no way God was giving as little girl that foot".  So I wondered what she thought of this foot?  Is it appropriate for a little girl?  These photos are from the ultrasound where we found out they are both girls.
