I have fantastic friends...

I am still behind but before I catch up...
on a bunch of old posts that I am way behind on...please see this picture below of Riley! Holland is hard at work on perfecting her photog skills and Riley is happy to be her toddler model. Is this picture not unbelievable?? Michael said he and Riley were answering the question, "What sound does an owl make?"
Do you like his new hairdo? I will post about his first trip to the salon soon....I promise!
Now go to Holland's blog and check out the only other two pictures she was able to take while they tried to manage two toddlers outdoors. They too are awesome!

I am updating...but don't get used to it...
So a friend of mine told me that it had been over a month since my last update...tisk tisk! Anyway, I have started a new job and been working my old job until last week and trying to help train the new "me" and now I am out of town on business for the second time in a month and I am out of town next week too...and I went home several times last month to help Momma pack up Pcola...so anyway I have some good reasons...I am BUSY! But, I will post a picture for you:

E. Coy Irvin, M.D.
On Monday, Dr. Coy Irvin, joined the McLeod Regional Medical Center leadership team as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer (CMO). He was chosen for this position after a national search process was conducted to find the right team member for McLeod. Dr. Irvin will be leading the medical staff matters formerly directed by Dr. Alva Whitehead. After more than ten years of service, Dr. Whitehead notified us in late 2009 that he wished to move to a part-time position. Dr. Whitehead will work directly with me and serve as medical advisor for McLeod Health.
Dr. Irvin’s medical training and specialty is Family Medicine. He served patients in a Family Medicine practice for 20 years before joining Baptist Health in Pensacola, Florida, as the Chief Medical Officer in 2005. Baptist Health is recognized as a previous recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
I would like to introduce you to Dr. Irvin by sharing his thoughts on several questions I had a chance to cover with him recently. Additional information will be available in a formal announcement.
RC: Dr. Irvin, what attracted you to medicine as a career choice?
CI: I grew up in a small town where family friends were General Practitioners. I was moved by how much they loved caring for their patients and community.
RC: Your previous job was in leadership at Baptist Health in Pensacola, Florida. As a member of a health system with a national reputation in service excellence, what advice do you have for serving patients and families?
CI: Patients want to know we are here for them, that we will protect them and that we will not hurt them. They need to see us as “friends.”
RC: How can the health system better support physicians?
CI: Major challenges to practicing medicine include growing bureaucracy and paperwork which takes away time from helping patients. Anything we can do to give doctors more time to practice medicine will better help them serve their patients.
RC: As a busy leader… a physician and an executive leader, what are your hobbies and outside interests?
CI: I believe in giving back to our communities, so I have long been involved in volunteer work as well as the political process. I also enjoy boating and, of course, my grandson, Riley.

Blogworthy Story
So, I swear I will be back to posting pictures soon enough. However, in the meantime, you can read this hilarious story from my Mom. She has Riley this week.

you are not adopted from some Hispanic family????? This afternoon, Riley and I were in Publix. We had a very short shopping list, we had not been there long. We were looking for grits. As we "whooshed" (Thomas Talk) down the cereal aisle, we passed two lovely long-haired brunette young ladies in tank tops, sunglasses and cute skirts - they were in deep conversation and it was obvious they were speaking Spanish. Riley began saying "Momma" slowly at first and then more and more rapidly and more loudly, then became agitated. I had already turned around to see what he had noticed and they were the only humans in sight. Finally, he was so agitated that I spun the cart around and began chasing down the poor unsuspecting young ladies so that he would see that his mother had not breezed past him and left his plea unanswered. I cut them off before they could make it to the check out line and we interrupted their intense conversation. "Excuse me ladies... I'm sorry but my grandson seems to believe that one of you is his mother." Then I realized how crazy (accusatory) that may have sounded to them. So, I said "you both look a lot like my daughter" and they visibly relaxed. I guess they then realized that I was not too much of a nut case. Riley continued to loudly chant "Momma, Momma. Momma." And he had long before begun to get tearful. The young ladies jerked off their sunglasses. It made me so sad for him, as he looked at them and looked so confused. It dawned on me that someone might call security and have me checked out as some child predator - kidnapper, so I apologized for the intrusion, thanked them and skeedaddled quickly with many apologies to the young ladies who just stood there staring, amazed that this little fellow continued to call out to them "Momma!" I detoured into the toy aisle and found the dinosaur figures I had spotted on a previous trip when I purchased the safari animal figures. He was a happy camper after that! You never know what will happen to you in the grocery store! I'm very appreciative that I had a very short list! Coy - does this incident make you reminiscent of the Art Linkletter show "Kids Say the Darnedest Things!" I bet Riley would have been their youngest guest!

Hello friends!
Most of you already know that this was in the works, but wanted to give you the official news. Coy has taken a job in Florence, SC with McLeod Regional Medical Center. His job title is CMO/VP of Medical Affairs. We are excited for him as this is an incredible job in an exceptional culture of hospital excellence. It goes without saying that we are incredibly sad about leaving Pensacola. We love this city and all of our friends and acquaintances here - not to mention the institutions which have played such important roles in our lives - FUMC, EDS, CHS. There could never be a home that measures up to this lovely place, its people and the roots we have grown here while bringing up our girls. We feel blessed in very large measure for having lived this chapter in our lives in Penscola with all of you.
Briefly, I will tell you a little about Florence. It is in the northeastern part of the state, in a rather sparsely populated area. The population of the city is approx. 35,000. The population in a 60 mile radius is 1.02 million. It has a lot of industry and maunfacturing: Honda makes ATV's and personal watercraft, GE makes half of the world's superconducting magnets for MRI's, Roche pharmaceuticals has a presence as does Monster.com, and 5 or 6 more large manufacturers. McLeod is the largest employer there. McLeod is locally owned, is a not-for-profit with 4,700 employees, 400 doctors and approximately 580 licensed beds. McLeod has 2 other hospitals in the system. And for those of you who know Michael Long - he is a native of Florence!
Coy begins his responsibilities there on June 21. Our home will be on the market shortly. I do not know how soon I will join him, it depends on what we find there for housing in the short term. We will be returning as much as is possible for many events, so you might not miss us! Please keep us in your prayers. We are excited about this new adventure, even as we are grieving about leaving this much loved city. We will miss all of you terribly, but look forward to keeping in touch by email, cell phone and visits!

A visit with Pocky
Pocky was up in Prattville last weekend, so Sunday afternoon he came down to get a good visit in with his great grandson. They put together some puzzles, and Pocky taught RIley about his hands and fingers (you can see the picture below of them comparing digits), we did some more playing around and RIley was in generous modd and gave Pocy a hug on his way out. We had a big time!
