First, I am so sorry for the radio silence today. It has been a wonderful day, however, it turns out that pain medicine kicks my but. I spent the majority of the day completely out of it. I was still feeling the effects of the spinal block late this afternoon and have used very little of the morphine drip because of the spinal block effects. To give you an idea the morphine drip is set up to be dispensed at the touch of a button as needed, every 6 minutes. I probably used it more like 5 times since 9:00 am this morning, on the off chance I needed it. So anyway, that is my excuse.
For those who were worried having not heard from me, I really am sorry, I should have given Michael and my Mom better instructions.
In case you have not heard all the details, here they are:
My mom, michael and I arrived at the hospital at 5:00 am. Then I got blood drawn, and fluids and they monitored the babies. I was fine until about 6:30 and then I was really antsy. I have never had surgery before and I was scared. (heck, I am not going to lie, I am still scared and I am 16 hours into recovery). So they finally come for me at 7 am. I had a nurse anenestist (spelling?) do my spinal block and she was soooooo wonderful. I had no idea that she would be such a gem. She led me through the entire surgery and gave me the play by play of what was happening and what would be happening next. It would have been a much harder experience for this surgery sissy without her.
The ins and outs of the surgery I will save for later, but the end result was Baby A was born at 7:44 am weighing 6lbs. And 4 oz. She is 20 inches long and we named her: Mary Pace Otts Godwin. We plan to call her Mary Pace. Baby B was born at 7:45 am (transverse and breech), weighing 6 lbs. And 2 oz. She is 19.5 inches long and we named her Currey Elizabeth Lee Godwin. We plan to call her Currey Elizabeth.
I am certain now that the girls are fraternal, they look very different...more and more so as the day went on. They are doing wonderfully and are perfectly healthy according to Dr. Morrison!
It is one thing to say that you are having twins, and another to actually meet them! We are blessed beyond belief with these two sweet babies and we cannot thank all of our family and friends for all of their love and support in the past 5 weeks. We certainly better understand the phrase, "...it takes a village."
